More progress on the Firebird.
Mitch Walraven at Total Engine Service added the O2 bungs and welded on the retention springs to these modified Force Fed Fabs Longtubes. Really nice welds, good placement of the springs and O2 bungs. The pics just don’t do it any justice!

They look really nice. What’s the RPM target on the tuned length?

It’s got a happy range from around 5500-6500 since there are some differences in the length on each primary. It’s a 90°V6 so it’s just gonna be harsh anyway.

what year/motor? Forced induction? Big cam? Why do you need such big headers on the V6? Looks like a 3800 bolt pattern on the flanges?

2000 Firebird 3800V6, normally aspirated, biiiig cam 270 duration 600 lift, race ported heads, big valves 11:1 compression.
Had the longtubes before, modified the collectors to be a venturi style this time to help keep the velocity going.

Wow, that’s some serious lift. Streetable? Or just making a strip car? Going for some kind of N/A 3800 record?
I love the 3800, it’s by far my favorite V6. I’ve got 6 that I maintain right now in various family’s cars.

Road course/autocross. We’ll see about the NA record, maybe it will fall with this setup.

What’s the point of these retention springs? Why not just weld the collector to the headers?

The pipes come together so tight it would have been a pita to weld them on. A slip fit with a cone merge would have been better for that.
If these don’t work quite as planned, I can always change it.
